    Hey All,

Recently had a lab member that was doing some experiments with the chi bio which eventually resulted in permanently switched on LED that resulted in scorched light source piece. Here is a description of what exactly happened leading up to the event:

    1. Initial failure to communicate with any of the installed reactors via API
    2. Closed Putty, restarted three times and on the third time the chi bio was able to be detected
    3. Started an experiment and went through 1 or 2 measurements and all pumps stopped (one pump was meant to be constantly pumping air)
    3. The chi bio-API froze and run could not be properly terminated
    4. Reactors were unplugged, putty shut down, reconnected and putty rebooted
    5. The Blue LED light remained intensely turned on by itself upon reboot
    6. Reactor before long heated up and the smell of burning, with melting occurring around the light source piece

Here’s a pic of the burnt area in question

    Hi Matt,
Sorry to hear you are having these issues – from the description of the causes leading up to it this sounds like there may have been some significant hardware faults in that reactor. Whatever was wrong with it eventually led to a short in the circuit controlling the Blue LED (which incidentally is the most powerful of them) and now it is permanently on at maximum power (higher than intended by the software!)
I’d recommend getting in touch with Labmaker to tell them it came with a hardware fault and ask if they can replace it…
