Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any requirements for the PC used to interface with the system?

Not really. No processing actually happens on the connected PC or network; the only software required is a web browser. You can therefore use any old Windows/Linux/Mac. I would recommend using a screen with HD resolution at least, to make it easier to operate the UI.

Can Chi.Bio be used as a chemostat, instead of turbidostat?

Yes, the input/output pumps can be programmed to operate to provide continuous inflow of fresh media if desired.

Can I use Chi.Bio without the pump board?

Yes, Chi.Bio can run without the pump board if its capabilities are not required for a particular application.

Can I use Chi.Bio for X?

See the Tech Specs page for details on each of Chi.Bio’s subsystems. If your desired application X uses some combination of these capabilities, then the answer to your question is probably yes: It is fairly straightforward to program the platform to use any combination of actuation/measurement tools to measure/control a process.

How do I implement new functions in the software?

A guide to implementing new features/buttons/routines in the operating system is provided in the readme of the Chi.Bio Github project
