    Hello,

We are considering using Chi.bio bioreactors to cultivate Cyanobacteria in my lab. We know that the requirements of Cyanobacteria mostly differs in that they need light in order to do photosynthesis. We also read on the Chi.bio page that the LEDs incorporated in the device are also suitable for photosynthetic organisms (the wavelengh in which Cyanobacteria are the happiest is within the visible spectrum). However, there are no examples of cultivating such organisms or any publications where they used Chi.bio for that purpose (or at least we couldn’t find it). We were wondering if anyone has experience with that. Will a photosynthetic organism grow in Chi.bio?

Even though not always needed, there will be some growing conditions in which they will need CO2, is someone experienced in using one of the pipes of the Chi.bio to supply any kind of aeration? If so, how was the experience? If not, do you think it will be possible?

Thank you a lot for your time and congratulations on this cool product!

    Hello Sofia

We have done both of these things in our lab at various points; using the white (6500K) LED at low intensity so support cyanobacteria growth, and also using CO2 to pump through the headspace. In the later we got a manual flow valve and connected it to a CO2 cylinder with pressure regulator and set it to some small flow rate (e.g. 0.1L per minute) which seemed to work OK. This was then just plugged into the top of each reactor.
