    Hi there,

    I am a final year student at Imperial College working with Dr. Guy-Bart Stan and Dr. Zoltan A. Tuza from The Imperial College Centre for Synthetic Biology, and am currently working on developing a test environment for the ChiBio software where the UI can be run without the hardware. I came across this line of code in the codebase that I am not very clear on what it does / it’s purpose is.

    From a quick glance, it seems to prevent the FP settings from being changed until the UIDevice is switched. But I’m not very sure on why this precautionary measure is necessary. Will greatly appreciate it if you could shed some light on this so I can introduce my changes to the software without breaking anything!

    Hi Yong,

    Indeed, what it does is check if you have just changed the devices – and then update the FP settings accordingly. I cannot recall off the top of my head whether it is essential – perhaps you can remove it and it will still work. If i was to guess what issues it could create I would say perhaps if you try to update those selections whilst the user is trying to use them (i.e. if they have one of the FP seting dropdown boxes open) perhaps the HTML front-end would close the menu – making it hard for them to select the right option before it disappears!

    If you can get away without that line I expect all is fine!
